Jost Stollman likes sailing close to the wind, but just now there's a fresh breeze blowing right in his face.  The Geman entrepreneur is CEO of Sydney-based Tyro Payments, and he wants to change how Australians pay for their shopping.  Stollman is convinced he can take on the powerful operators in the financial services industry with Tyro's technically superior payments platform.  The contest is not trivial - the nation moves $315 billion per year through payment systems, via credit and debit cards - but Stollman is no novice.  He founded CompuNet, Germany's leading IT network and systems integrator, devleoped it into a $US 1 billion company, and in 1996 sold it to General Electric. In 1998, Germany's then-chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder, asked Stollman to serve as Minister for Economy and Technology.   The Harvard-trained former consultant with Boston Consulting Group politely declined and went sailing instead.....

The flow-on of ethical practices from one company to another can become a tide of change if you use your capacity to influence.

IT’S THE stuff we so rarely give a thought to: the paper, the pens, the desks and chairs, the paraphenalia of modern office life. But each is an opportunity to leverage a more sustainable outcome in the supply chain. Corporate buying is under greater scrutiny as we all come under pressure to do more with less.
